Decker struggled to get more control of the music she made available after her two previous singles were not very well-received. Decker's second album, announced in the form of Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records was shelved after Mercury was disappointed by the performances of three of her singles on the country charts.
